I was stationed aboard USS Henry Clay Gold from July 1977 through October 1980.
Qualified in Submarines and Qualified as Engineer Officer in Henry Clay. Left active
duty 30 November 1982 (2 years as instructor at Nuclear Power School in Orlando, 
FL). I am now a Captain in the Naval Reserve commanding a unit supporting
Submarine Group 10 in Kings Bay, GA.

On board 625 Blue from January 1989 to Aug 1989 Bull Nuke for the last Henry
Clay patrol which happened to be Coopex..  70 hour turnover in Scotland followed
by a 118 day patrol. Brought the Clay back to the states via Norfolk, suppress
ORSE and Tiger Cruise to Charleston.

Hello!  This looks to be a great web-site. I served on Henry Clay gold crew
from April '86 to May '90 as an ET2 (NAVET). I was on her last Gold patrol
and also got to ride out Hurricane Hugo onboard in Charleston, SC.

From reading the postings on this page, it looks as if I'm the "old guy", having
served between mid 1969 and spring 1972. I was an Electrician's Mate. I remember
having a lot of fun spinning the throttles and handling the "EPCBenchboard" during,
sea trials, drills and ORSE.

My period of service saw the overhaul at Charleston, sea trials, a missile firing at
the Cape (Apollo 11 launched while we were at the Cape), torpedo trials in V.I., and
then 3 patrols out of Guam.

I only recently discovered what happened to the Clay and was disappointed but not
surprised to learn of her dismantling. I guess the boat is 10,000 Toyotas by now.

It's good to hear of some of my old shipmates.

I've often wondered how to "reconnect" with some of the old gang and I'm happy to find
someone taking the lead on a fine web page.  Hello Herb & Ted.  It was good to see your
names.

I served on the Clay between March 1969 and April 1973 as a nuke IC man.  I was
privileged to work many 7 x 12's during overhaul at Charleston, experience sea trials, a
missile launch, torpedo trials and 6 patrols out of Guam.

I have wondered what 625's conclusion might have been and hopefully someone will fill
me in.

I am still in contact with a few people I served the most time with and look forward to
making contact with more.
 

I served on the Henry Clay in the Gold Crew from February 1965 to April 1968. I came
aboard as a MM2(SS) and was promoted to MM1(SS). I served as an ELT and became
the Gold Crew Primary Petty Officer, Lead ELT, and Engine Room Supervisor.

I made a total of seven patrols out of Rota Spain and Holy Loch Scotland. After leaving
the service in 1968 I also worked on the Clay as a radiological technician working for the
Charleston Naval Shipyard.

I look forward to seeing in the future some names of the older crew members during the
time I was aboard.
