Sir / Ma'am,
I served onboard the Clay
for her last patrol and decom as a young MT3. I
reported onboard in late 1988 and left in October 1989. My name is
Teddy
Gray and I was on the Gold crew for patrol 78 where I received my fish
(that
I still wear to this day). I am currently stationed at NSSC (Naval
Submarine
Support Center) Kings Bay, GA. I have 17 years in the Navy and plan
on a few
more. Hoping to make Senior Chief in a couple of years or maybe go
the
Warrant Officer route. I have completed 17 patrols on four different
boats.
USS Henry Clay (1), USS U.S. Grant (5), USS Pennsylvania (6), and USS
Maine
(5). If you need any more information just email back.

Hi, just found this website - pretty nice. I served on Henry Clay from
May of 1963 through the summer of 65. I was on the Blue commissioning
crew in the Reactor Controls division as an ETR2(SS). Made three
patrols, one rather scary when we thought we were being tracked by
a
Ruskie. Left to go to ETB school in San Fran.

It was ' 64 I think, and my ship, the USS Forrest B. Royal ( DD 872
) was in
Cape Canaveral when we tied up near the Clay. Through an exchange plan,
we
swapped some of our crew with yours and out to sea we went. I never
forgot
that remarkable trip aboard that fantastic sub. I was 19 then and was
in awe of
all I experienced. We dove, surfaced, I got a chance to look back at
the Royal
under pursuit, and was amazed at the air conditioning, and great food.
I remember
Sherwood Forest and the " glow " through a window behind a ladder.
If any mates
recall that cruise please respond. The memories were beyond belief.
I thank you.

My name is Robert W. Pounders. I was on the Henry Clay from 1982
to 1984.
Gold crew I believe. I now reside in Astoria, Oregon. I've
been out of work
for close to 3 years. I've gone back to college to try to get
more education.
While on the boat we docked in Kings Bay. Put into port in Portugal.
Loved
Scotland. Especially the fish and chips. Went to both Glasgow
and Eddinburough
while stationed on the Henry Clay. I need info on my fellow
submariners on the
boat. I need anyone on boat with me to contact me. I have
not heard from anyone
since I was dischared. My email is bobbypounders@yahoo.com
Thx, Bob
